INKATERRA HACIENDA CONCEPCIÓN
Deep within the heart of the Amazon – where the story of Inkaterra first began – lays Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción, located between the Tambopata National Reserve and the shores of the Madre de Dios River. 25 private cabanas sitting majestically on stilts and a 5-room casa grande with high ceilings and a rustic thatched roof are peppered around the property.
An astonishing selection of activities is led by local explorer guides, offering first-hand knowledge of the Peruvian Amazon. Excursions include a visit to Lake Sandoval, a water mirror inhabited by Howler monkeys, caimans and giant river otters.
LOCATION
Built in a former cacao and rubber plantation, on the grounds of what was back in the 50’s “Fundo Concepción”, an Amazon Catholic medical mission center, our children friendly lodge is located in an enchanting and serene lush setting within 819 hectares of natural rainforest. The rainforest acts as a buffer zone between the Tambopata National Park Reserve and the shores of the vast Madre de Dios river, making the location of this new lodge quite unique and wonderfully remote.
Located only 8 kilometers / 25 minutes down river from Puerto Maldonado, Hacienda Concepción can only be reached by taking a scenic canoe ride from the town.

ARRIVED PUERTO MALDONADO - AMAZON
Start your journey arriving to Puerto Maldonado, where our staff will welcome you and provide the necessary information for your stay.
Navigate by outboard motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion for approximately 25 minutes.
Enjoy lunch with organic ingredients and native flavors.
After lunch, take a walk through Concepcion trails, our inside property nature trails, where you will discover and learn about primary and secondary rainforest, its components, uses, transformations by the human being, and its relevance for the world.At dusk navigate by outboard motorized canoe, at the twilight river excursion. By sailing on the Madre de Dios River, you will learn about its ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animals’ behavior, and the southern constellations.
In the evening enjoy a nice dinner in the Casa Grande’s dining room. (L. D.)

AMAZON
New experiences are ahead and after taking a nutritious buffet breakfast, get ready for a long trek through terra firma into the Tambopata National Reserve towards Lake Sandoval. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the biodiversity capital of Peru, while learning about the Reserve’s conservation efforts and the lake’s formation.
Navigate by dugout canoe across this mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and one of the world’s biggest fresh water scaled fish, the paiche (Arapaima gigas).
Back to the lodge for lunch, and later the Inkaterra canopy walkway & anaconda walk await for you. Take a 20-minute ride by outboard motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center where you will learn about its construction and the conservation projects of ITA-Inkaterra Asociación (NGO). Ascend one of the two 98-foot towers (30 m.) and cross the 7 hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. high (28 m.). Enjoy the breathtaking vistas and get the chance to watch white-throated toucans (Ramphastos tucanus), woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and the three-toed sloth (Choleopus hoffmani).
After descending keep on feeling the incredible primary rainforest energy going along the 200-meter wooden bridge over the swamps (aguajales). You will learn about the fauna and flora of this flooded ecosystem.
At night get ready for an adventure at the rainforest by night excursion, where you will explore the Amazon rainforest that gives way to nocturnal animals who display intriguing behavior patterns, and enhanced senses as adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal living nature sounds, and penetrate this hidden world.
Return to the lodge and enjoy a nice dinner. (B. L. D.)

AMAZON - DEPART PUERTO MALDONADO
After breakfast buffet, take a ride back to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motorized canoe.
Arrive at the Butterfly House Lounge where you may wait for your flight back home or to your next destination in Peru. (B.)
The Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion is the answer for nature lovers seeking an authentic Amazon rainforest experience in a very comfortable environment and who may be a little more constrained by time and budget.
In a serene rain forest (7km from Puerto Maldonado) setting beside an ox-bow lake, the main house with its high ceilings and palm-thatched roof is surrounded by wide verandas decked out with furniture crafted from reclaimed timber. The lodge has generously-sized rooms spread around the upper floor of the main house and nineteen individual cabanas that are built in the style of the traditional Ese Eja communities with covered porches, screened windows, and a beautiful view across the lagoon.
Twice daily excursions led by expert, English-speaking, naturalist guides uncover many of the wonders of the rainforest. A visit to Lake Sandoval the home to Giant Otters is usually included in your excursions.
Tambopata Suites:
The Rooms are perfect for families or groups of friends. They are spacious with Amazon style architecture. Equipped with either two twin beds or one king bed each room has a view of the forest with a sitting area on the porch. Enjoy bathrobes and rubber soled slippers as well as natural essence toiletries and bathrooms with hot water. The rooms have reading lights as well as limited electricity and a ceiling fan.
Cabañas:
Overlooking rainforest the cabanas are ideal for couples. They are private and each cabana has either a king or two twin beds with mosquito nets and curtains. The bathrooms have hot water and natural essence toiletries. There is a light in the bathroom and reading lights, power outlets and a ceiling fan. Enjoy relaxing in a hammock in the sitting area after a day of exploring. Each cabana has a forrest view and some face the Coch, oxbow lake.

WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU BRING:
- A small rucksack
- Lightweight, tightweave long cotton pants & long -sleaved cotton shirts
- A fleece and a windbreaker are advisable for cool evenings
- Light raingear (poncho) for sudden downpours
- Sneakers or other low heeled walking shoes are essential
- Sunhat / glasses, sunscreen
- Insect repellent is a must, preferably with 20% deet
- A water bottle
- Good binoculars and a flashlight or headlight
- Personal gear, toiletries, cameras, 400 exp film
- Your passport, yellow fever certificate and extra money in plastic bags
- A few energy snacks will be useful
- If you have extra large sized feet we may not be able to find rubber boots in your size for the muddy trails as they are generally not available in Peru….so please bring old shoes for the muddy trails.
